Raise your hand if you’re 35 or older & what you previously did to lose weight is no longer working!
Maybe you’ve noticed that your crash diet tactics are no longer effective.
- Simply slashing calories is no longer cutting it.
- Working out longer & harder is not yielding results.
You may be eating what you consider a healthy diet & still gaining fat in your midsection. I know this can feel very frustrating.
Don’t Give Up!
First, just know that this is normal! Part of weight gain is due to a decline in estrogen, which influences where fat is distributed in the body. Perimenopause can begin as early as 35 & it becomes increasingly more difficult to lose weight & keep it off.
Hormonal changes that occur at this stage of life may make weight loss more difficult, BUT Your body isn’t broken & menopause weight gain ISN’T inevitable. Want to know which hormones you need to balance? Check out this blog post, Three Hormones You Need to Know To Lose Fat.
I invite you to decide that getting older is just an excuse. Let’s not totally blame your hormones and give up on looking and feeling your best. Because honestly, your diet & lifestyle have a bigger impact than you think!
Burn Fat Even If You Are Over 35!
Here’s what you can do to prevent weight gain after 35.
- Start strength training. When you lift weights, you combat the loss of muscle mass that comes with aging. Losing muscle mass slows the rate at which your body uses calories. As you gain muscle, your body burns calories more efficiently, which enhances fat loss.
- Eat MORE Whole Foods (less processed foods) with plenty of fiber. It’s not enough to simply count calories. The quality of your food matters. And if you are feeling run down and exhausted, just swapping your overly processed foods with REAL WHOLE FOODS will give you the energy boost you are looking for.
- Manage your carbohydrate intake. Carbs are essential for healthy hormones, but what types of carbs & how many you eat are very important. Learn what works for your body. You want to find your sweet spot. Grab my Fasting and Carb Cycling Guide to learn more.
- Prioritize rest, quality sleep, & stress management. All of which will allow your body to trust you & be more likely to release fat.
- Limit Alcohol & sweets (I didn’t say ELIMINATE. I just said limit). Let’s just say your body will burn alcohol and sugar FIRST before your stored fat. Be smart with your adult beverages and treats.
